Salesman

You wear a good suit, and you’re smart,
And quick, one step ahead; you seem
To most to be urbane, and yet
Your bitter and rapacious smile
Reveals bared teeth. By this quick rage
You can be led. Your rehearsed words
Give way to a hate that will brook
No reason if you don’t get your way.
You’ve learned to turn a deal but do not know
How to talk to people, if it doesn’t pay.
