This week in wildlife

On this day last year the ceanothus on the high road's central reservation put out a few fuzzy blue blooms and attracted an early bumblebee. Here and there the cherry laurel was out, too, and in my garden the beds were shot through by the bluish-green spears of daffs. This year little stirs, though beneath the stubborn architecture of the sedums swell tiny green fists of new leaves.
