Rain, rain, go away...

Even here in the city, signs of the wet weather we've been having are all around us. Two streets away, this teasel's seeds are starting to sprout within the seed-head; they should have long been shaken out, but the teasel hasn't been able to dry out enough to let them go from the upper side, where rain has clearly been gathering:

Bees, bats, butterflies and birds have all struggled this year, and the impact on their numbers may still be felt for years to come. Snails and slugs, though, have thrived – to many a gardener's disgust.
